Depression is a debilitating illness affecting more than 17 million American adults, and despite a range of therapies designed to treat the condition, sometimes relief based on counseling and current medications isn’t enough. This is why New Pathways Clinic is pioneering a new treatment approach with our ketamine-based therapies for treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

Our owner, Steve Suntala, recently had an opportunity to discuss the groundbreaking services we offer at our mental health clinic in Columbus, during an interview with NBC 4. You can view the interview and discussion below.

Ketamine Is a Revolutionary Approach to Mental Health Treatment

Ketamine, which has been used for anesthesia and sedation since the 1960s, is now being employed in a groundbreaking new way here at New Pathways Clinic. Administered at lower doses through IV infusions, it can lead to rapid improvements in individuals suffering from depression.

These low-dose infusions are 40-minute procedures that produce swift results. Our patients come in for around a two-hour appointment, during which they receive an IV infusion, while their vitals – blood pressure and heart rate – are monitored continuously by a nurse to ensure their safety and comfort.

Alongside ketamine infusions for various conditions, we also offer Spravato, a milder, nasal spray- version of ketamine (S-ketamine), which is often fully or mostly covered by insurance for eligible patients, particularly Medicaid patients. This makes our treatments accessible to a broader population.

Turning the Tide for Mental Health Patients

Most of our patients have been seeking treatment for over a decade, and in some cases, even for 20 or 30 years. Prescription medications are effective for only about half of the population. However, the ketamine-based treatments offered by New Pathways Clinic boast a staggering 75% success rate.

A series of six Ketamine Infusions has been scientifically proven in hundreds of studies to be 70% effective, even for patients with severe conditions.

One group that can particularly benefit from this treatment is people suffering from PTSD, a group that includes not only military veterans but also people who have experienced trauma such as abuse within relationships. We’re proud to share that we have achieved impressive results for these patients.

Even more promising is the fact that the impact of the treatments can be swift: some patients feel better after the first treatment, and a majority of our patients are no longer symptomatic after three weeks of treatment. We’re offering a breath of fresh air in a field where there haven’t been any new treatments in over 30 years, despite the rising prevalence of mental illnesses, which have been further exacerbated by the pandemic.
